FANTASTIC conversation between Miles Baker and Andrew Perez of Zeteo News today on the @Paging America cast about a very compelling poll that asked very smart questions about how Americans feel about healthcare access policy and the future. Just fantastic.
Beginning at 25:00, Baker and Andrew dive into an abbreviated, but very smart, huddle analyzing the polling data and input.
A few top line primers: Americans are not educated about Single Payer Universal Healthcare; they know very little about the history of the movement: they know very little about the contents of the Senate Bill 1506/HR 3069; they understand very little about how the program is financed and how it is different than the Canadian, UK, European, et. al programs; and Americans understand very little about the way in which commercial health insurance investment banks continue to deny them care while hiking premiums. (*See also: The Float.)
The (National Improved) Medicare for All poll Baker and Perez are discussing is a very thorough one. The data shows the historic level of tsunamic support for the passage of Senate Bill 1506 and House Resolution 3069— but it also reveals that support drops off once Americans are asked to give up their commercial health insurance investment bank plans.
The polling data and feedback reveals why Americans are conflicted about transitioning to Senate Bill 1506/HR 3069. They understand the Denial of Care Harm-for-Profit commercial health insurance investment bank model directly robs them and harms them, but they are skeptical of trusting government. Thus, they are teetering between what appears to be two very bad options.
Baker and Perez touch briefly on the difference between Senate Bill 1506/HR 3069 and the Public Option, which are very different proposals / bills. The Senate Bill 1506/HR 3069 program is comprehensive and lifelong and the Public Option is fragmented, incremental and non-comprehensive.
The two men swerve off track momentarily when they discuss GLPs and use the phrase “healthcare savings” but this is by far the smartest huddle on Single Payer Universal Healthcare and the the prospect of enacting a moral/ethical approach to, and model of, healthcare in the United States in 2029.
For 40 years we, in the Single Payer Universal Healthcare movement, have presented ample evidence on how little of American's’ premium dollars go to actual healthcare and how much money is invested in securities, bonds, real estate and private equity by the commercial health insurance investment banks Americans will-fully fortify.
It is understandable that Americans want a solution. Americans want to trust in their state and federal governments. They want to trust in the private sector. But the dissonance across the body politic is the byproduct of both government and the private sector perpetuating and accelerating dehumanization, greed, structural violence and Harm-for-Profit since 1980.
Perez states touches briefly on this fact at the end of the conversation saying something along the lines of: We have to build it.
The corruption, the greed, the crime is us. Americans are the broken Systemness. Americans are indecisive and split about which way to go on healthcare access because they know they are responsible and accountable for the corruption, greed and crime. They are afraid and distrustful of their fellow citizens be it public servants or private sector execs and boards.
We are the problem.
For this reason, the health philosophy and healthcare access policy conversation needs to go much deeper than polling data and the stats du jour.
The question for the next chat on @Paging America about the viability of passing the Single Payer Universal Healthcare bill in 2029-2030 is: Why is generating personal and corporate wealth extracted from deliberately—intentionally—untreated illness, injury, disability and preventable death—legal?
And, why do Americans (as patients and shareholders both) choose to rationalize a business model that violently impedes and obstructs medical care for profit?
Much to discuss Miles. Give me a call. Let’s talk.
I say it is the food and water and pollution in this country. But of course the trump regime has to blame it on the women who take Tylenol during pregnancy……are you sure it is not because the mother is cold and uncaring? Than is what their thought decades ago……point being the woman is always to blame……..of course
Your show is really special-my legal work was focused on health care access and public policy and insurance denials; I like your upbeat presentation to bad news - it seems hopeful
and you go behind the news to very important issues.
Robert Kennedy Jr. is going to get us all killed. His unreasonable hatred of vaccines is going to bring death and misery to many.
I sincerely despise this man

They want us dead. ACA saved my life and there’s not a single doubt about it.
They do want us dead! This administration is so sadistic and nihilistic.
I’m glad ACA saved your life, and I hope you’re doing okay now with all the horrible Trump cuts
I thought it read- Pegging America. Somehow that made sense

7/17/26 Go Blue Poem
Last night was another Trump 2020 reunion
The state of our union is now fantasy and delusion
After a thorough investigation by Trump's own A.G. and FBI
He has the nerve, while we are in the midst of a war, to lie
Our country is now circling around the drain
Because Donald is suffering from an ego injury pain
Someone called Dr. RFK Jr. because he is having a brain stroke
Trump kept fact the checkers busy with all the lies he spoke
Don's hope lies in the hands of Dr. Bob Jr. and his roadkill therapies
The only ones happy about the state of our union are Trump's nominees
The president must still be mad about his take-out order
Because the Chinese are responsible now for his 2020 disorder
The president's delusions will keep his fan base clapping for days
While the rest of the country are lost in his delusional haze
A responsible government official would have gently taken his microphone away
But our country is being run by Republican sycophants today
Mike Johnson was seen with joyful tears dripping from his eyes
His head must be still spinning from all of Trump's many lies
There can be no negotiations or compromise
We have to dry the tears away from Lady Liberty's eyes
We must protest against these delusions from becoming normalized
The Republican party is no help. They've all been hypnotized
The rest of the world will need to seek help from our creator
A film about this presidency is best left with a Disney animator
Democracy demands that we all pay attention
We must never give up the vote or our dissension
The forefathers gave us the vote and the power
To topple this regime from its DC ivory tower
Give the government back to the people where it belongs
Remembering our brave heroes in history and their fighting songs
Ring Liberty's bell over and over for the nation to hear
The midterm elections are our only hope for this year
We need to bring the fight to the streets across the nation
Raise your voices and drown out this humiliation
Please share the message, and leave the hate behind.
Peace ✌️ Packy Paules
He’s a disgusting POS!
Hitler America. Remove clueless Kennedy.
