Hi there, I’m Rob Davidson, an emergency room doctor in rural Michigan, the executive director of the Committee to Protect Health Care, and the co-host of the Paging America podcast.
I’ve spent the last 27 years caring for my patients in West Michigan, and for more than half of the past decade, I have been using my voice – alongside thousands of physicians across the country – to fight for health care access, defend Medicaid, protect reproductive health care, and stop science misinformation that has run rampant.
Now, each week, I join my friend, Miles Baker – an advocate, organizer, and my co-host – to break down the latest stories of power, profit, and politics shaping American health care and how you can fight back.
We launched this publication because we were tired of watching decisions being made behind closed doors that decide who gets care and who gets left behind. We were tired of watching billionaires, lobbyists, and politicians gut programs like Medicaid, pretending like they’re trying to fix “waste, fraud, and abuse.” And we were tired of seeing health care workers and everyday people get left out of the conversation.
With so much news breaking everyday, it’s hard to keep track of what happens – and that’s what people in power want. So, every week, we bring you inside the late-night votes in Congress that put lives at risk, the policy moves you might not hear about until it’s too late, and the real-world impact politics has on health care, providers, and patients across the country.
We don’t just analyze the news — we explain what’s at stake. Whether it’s rural hospitals on the brink of closing, millions losing coverage, or unelected officials trying to redefine who “deserves” care, we break it down so that health care workers, voters, and concerned citizens can understand the system and fight for something better.
Paging America – a project of the Committee to Protect Health Care – is our home base:
A place to watch our podcast where we break down the power, profit, and politics shaping American health care;
A place to find the most pressing health care news that you aren’t hearing about on TV or in mainstream media;
A place to get the facts about what’s happening and dive deeper into the issues;
A place to hear directly from the doctors on the ground who are seeing the real world impacts of the policy decisions being made in Washington and State Capitols across this country.
From real doctors to policy experts, we invite special guests on the podcast and to co-author posts published just for you.
If you believe health care is a right, not a privilege, and you’re ready to take action and start organizing, subscribe today and join a community that refuses to give in to misinformation.
We’ll page you when it’s urgent.
Talk soon,
— Rob
Thank you so much for creating this space. This will cut through the current BS and help save lives. Science is crucial.
As a geriatric NP here in Nebraska i have seen changes in care marginalize more and more of my patients both in Omaha and in rural NE. My heart bleeds for the wonderful folks I've met in rural towns who work in the critical access hospitals and nursing homes--who have so much invested in their communities--facing closure of facilities. There is no psychiatry in the western 4/5 of the state. COVID really sunk a lot of patients and providers here as well.
